Spending heavily on a temporary weapon just to fit Jiquani's Soul Core of Squalls can leave a Wind build short of the upgrades it actually needs. Before committing Path of Exile 2 Currency to that setup, establish whether one additional Wind Skill Gem level improves your main damage source or merely polishes a secondary button. That distinction matters more than the appeal of another offensive modifier.

Check What the Extra Wind Skill Level Changes

Jiquani's Soul Core of Squalls provides +1 to all Wind Skill Gems in a compatible weapon, with a level 50 requirement and a limit of one. Treat those restrictions as an equipment checkpoint: reaching level 50 makes the core available, but does not establish that your current weapon deserves further investment.

Inspect the actual gem category before changing equipment. A projectile animation or swirling effect is not enough to establish eligibility. Then compare the skill's values at its current level and the next level. For a boss damage skill, identify the damage change; for utility, check whether the additional level improves the function you actually use.

Measure Build Contribution, Not Just Gem Growth

A stronger tooltip can exaggerate the importance of a small supporting skill. As a simplified example, if an eligible skill supplies 40% of your damage and gains 10% damage from another level, the direct increase across your total output is roughly 4%, assuming everything else remains unchanged. That is a comparison method, not a predicted Squalls result.

Opportunity cost becomes decisive when the existing socket effect supports your main attack or helps keep you alive. Compare both configurations against the same encounter. If removing the previous effect forces repeated retreats during a boss fight, extra damage on an eligible Wind skill may not compensate for the lost attacking time.

Delay Commitment Until the Weapon Has Staying Power

During campaign progression, evaluate the weapon before evaluating its socket. If ordinary enemies already take too long because the weapon itself is underperforming, improving one gem level may leave the larger problem untouched. Price the complete change, including the core and any equipment adjustments, rather than treating the socket investment as an isolated expense.

For an established Wind build, prioritize the purchase around a specific progression obstacle. A repeatable boss encounter offers a clearer damage comparison than scattered campaign fights. Keep enough resources available for defensive corrections afterward; an upgrade that leaves no room to address frequent deaths can reduce successful farming runs despite improving damage.

Test Clear Speed and Boss Uptime Separately

Run comparable content before and after the change, keeping support gems and other equipment fixed. Record completion time, deaths, and resource interruptions across several runs. Against packs, look for a practical breakpoint: needing one fewer skill use matters more than a tooltip increase that leaves every group requiring the same sequence.

Against durable targets, track how much time you can actually spend dealing damage. Check any changed resource costs rather than assuming another gem level is free to sustain. If your next investment involves POE 2 Divine Orbs for sale, establish the upgrade budget from those tests first, and commit only when Squalls improves repeatable clears without weakening survival or resource stability.
