Diablo 4 Whirlwind Expertise Guide by U4GM

Weapon expertise is easy to overlook in Diablo 4, especially when you are busy chasing better gear, finishing seasonal content, and tuning your build. Still, it can have a real effect on how your character feels in combat. If you want to test a new setup or fill gaps in your collection of D4 items, the training grounds offer a quick way to raise several weapon categories without starting another long farming session.

Start With the Right Conditions

Head to the training grounds before you begin. This location removes most of the usual distractions, so you can focus on the expertise bar rather than surviving a dungeon or searching for another target. Set the game to Normal difficulty as well. There is no benefit in making this test harder, and a lower setting keeps the process quick and predictable. You are not trying to prove how much damage your build can take here. You are simply giving the selected weapon enough time on the field.

Point Whirlwind at One Weapon Type

Open your skill setup and check the weapon assignment for Whirlwind. Choose the weapon category you want to improve, then make sure the skill is actually using it before you attack. This small detail matters. If Whirlwind is linked to the wrong weapon, the progress may go somewhere you did not intend. A quick check now saves you from repeating the whole process later, which is especially useful when you are preparing several weapons for a new build.

  • Use Normal difficulty.
  • Stay inside the training grounds.
  • Assign Whirlwind to the weapon you want to level.
  • Keep the attack active on the training dummies for about five seconds.

A Short Burst Is Usually Enough

Once everything is ready, walk over to the training dummies and start Whirlwind. Keep the attack going for roughly five seconds. That is normally enough to trigger a noticeable jump in the chosen expertise. You do not need to stand there for minutes, and there is no reason to bring a full rotation of cooldowns into the test. Stop, check the progress, switch to another weapon, and repeat the same action. The routine is simple, but it saves a surprising amount of time when you are working through multiple categories.

Use the Trick Before You Rebuild

This method is handy before changing to a different endgame setup. Raise the weapon types you expect to use, then return to your normal farming route with a more flexible character. It also works well for players who dislike wasting dungeon runs on basic progression. Keep an eye on the assigned weapon each time you swap skills, and do not assume the game will preserve the choice you want. A few seconds of checking can prevent a lot of pointless repetition, while affordable cheap Diablo IV Items can help round out the build once your expertise is ready.
