MMOexp POE2: Divine Orbs and Exalted Orbs are the primary trade currencies in the endgame
In most games, currency means gold or coins. In Path of Exile 2, currency is something entirely different. It's not just money—it's the lifeblood of crafting, the engine of the economy, and the key to transforming your character from a struggling exile into POE2 Currency an endgame destroyer.

The system can feel overwhelming at first. There are dozens of orbs, shards, essences, and artifacts, each with its own purpose. But once you understand how they work and how to farm them efficiently, you'll be well on your way to building wealth and power.
Gold – The Account-Bound Foundation
Gold is the closest thing PoE 2 has to traditional money. It drops from monsters and chests, and it's automatically picked up when you're nearby. Unlike other currencies, gold is account-bound—you can't trade it to other players, but you can use it across all your characters within the same league.
What do you spend gold on? Vendors, respeccing your passive skills, and the Currency Exchange. The Currency Exchange is particularly important—it requires gold as a transaction fee for buying and selling items.
For gold farming, speed is everything. Clear maps quickly, focus on small maps packed with enemies, and prioritize rare monsters and bosses—they drop significantly more gold than regular mobs.
The Orb System – Crafting Currency Explained
Orbs are the heart of PoE 2's economy. Each orb has a specific crafting function, and understanding what they do is essential for both upgrading your gear and trading with other players.
The Building Blocks:
Orb of Transmutation: Upgrades a Normal item to Magic with 1 modifier
Orb of Augmentation: Adds a random modifier to a Magic item
Regal Orb: Upgrades a Magic item to Rare with 1 additional modifier
Exalted Orb: Adds a random modifier to a Rare item
These four form the core progression path for crafting. You start with a white base, roll it blue with Transmutation, add another mod with Augmentation, then make it Rare with Regal and keep adding mods with Exalted Orbs. White bases are often the best way to get gear during the campaign—crafting from a strong base is more reliable than waiting for perfect drops.
The High-End Currencies:
Chaos Orb: Removes a random modifier and adds a new one to a Rare item
Divine Orb: Randomizes the numeric values on an item's modifiers
Orb of Annulment: Removes a random modifier
Orb of Chance: Gambles—upgrades a Normal item to Unique or destroys it
Mirror of Kalandra: Creates a mirrored copy of a non-Unique item
Divine Orbs and Exalted Orbs are the primary trade currencies in the endgame. Their exchange rates fluctuate based on the economy, and understanding these rates is key to smart trading.
Essences – Targeted Crafting
Essences are a powerful alternative to orbs because they guarantee specific types of modifiers. For example, Essence of Flames gives a fire-related modifier, while Essence of the Body gives a life-related one.
Regular essences upgrade Normal items to Magic with one specific modifier. Greater essences upgrade Magic items to Rare with one guaranteed modifier type.
Essences drop from frozen-in-time monster packs found throughout maps. For serious farming, you'll want to stack essence-related tablets on your towers to guarantee more essence encounters.
Distilled Emotions – Anointing Power
Distilled Emotions are special currencies that let you anoint amulets with notable passive skills from the tree. They also add Delirium layers to POE 2 Divine Orbs Waystones for extra difficulty and rewards.
You get them from Delirium events—timed encounters where mist envelops a map and powerful enemies spawn. The more monsters you defeat within the timer, the better your rewards.
